Choosing your child's first school is a big decision, and we'd love to help you make it. Located in the heart of Cheltenham, we're a small school which means that every child is known, cared for and supported to flourish from their very first day. 

A message from our Headteacher

Starting school is one of the biggest steps in a child's life, and in yours as a parent. At Holy Trinity we want every child to feel happy, safe and excited to learn from the moment they walk through the door.

We are extremely proud of the positive start we give all children at our school. Our Reception class is a warm, nurturing place where children build friendships, grow in confidence and get off to a great start. Because we're a small school, we get to know every child and every family well.

Why choose Holy Trinity?

Join us for an open event. Visits last about 45 minutes. You'll meet the Headteacher, see our classes in action and have plenty of time to ask questions.

How to apply

Reception places are allocated by Gloucestershire County Council, not by the school, so you apply through the council.

1. Visit us. Come to an open event or book a personal tour.
2. Apply online through Gloucestershire County Council's Family Portal. You can list up to five schools in order of preference. Please put Holy Trinity as your first choice if we're the school you want.
3. Hear back on National Offer Day. The council will tell you which school your child has been offered.
4. Accept your place by the deadline the council gives you.

Key dates for September 2027

Applying on time gives your child the best chance of a place at your preferred school. Late applications are considered after on-time ones.

Admissions criteria

Holy Trinity is a Voluntary Controlled Church of England school, so Gloucestershire County Council sets our admission arrangements. You can read the current criteria on the council's admissions page.

Summer-born children

If your child was born between 1 April and 31 August, you can ask to delay their start in Reception by a year. Please talk to us and read the council's guidance before you apply.

Starting Reception: what happens next

Once your place is confirmed, we'll help you and your child feel ready for September:

• New parents' meeting in June 2027, where you'll meet the Reception team and find out about the first term
• Stay-and-play sessions so your child can get to know their classroom and teachers
• Visits to nurseries and pre-schools by our Reception staff in the Summer term
• Home visits by our Reception staff to get to know families and the meet the children in their home setting
• A gentle start in September, with a settling-in timetable, which will be confiremd in the June meeting for new parents. 

Useful information for new families

Breakfast Club and After School Club. Breakfast Club runs from 8:00am until the start of the school day, and breakfast is included. After School Club runs from 3:15pm to 5:15pm and includes a light, healthy snack. Book and pay through ParentPay. Find out more

School meals. All Reception children get a free school lunch. If you think you may be eligible for Free School Meals, please still apply through Gloucestershire County Council. It brings extra funding into school to support your child.

Milk. School milk is free until the week before your child's fifth birthday. Register with Cool Milk
